What time of the year is best for outdoor photos?
Each season has its advantages and depends on what you're looking for. I typically recommend scheduling outdoor shoots from mid-May to January due to the quality of the light and surrounding colours. Let's be honest, we welcome the warm Spring air, but not so much the slush and mud that comes along with it.
Do you have a studio?
I do not have a formal studio, but in the summer months I create a working studio in our garage. I also have access to a professional studio space year round if this is the look you're after.
Do you use props during newborn sessions?
Nope. My style of photography emphasizes candid moments and your unique family connection. That being said, I will place baby on a flat surface (e.g. your bed) to capture their likeness - but ONLY if baby will allow me. If baby would rather stay in your arms, then that's where they'll stay!
What type of clothing should we wear?
Upon booking your session, I will send you a link to a Wardrobe Guide that I've created in order to make the selection process a little easier. All mamas and little ones will also have access to my Client Wardrobe.
I always recommend clothing free of graphics, logos, and wording to achieve a more timeless look. Most importantly though, you want to wear clothes that are comfortable and feel like you. The worst feeling is buying a new outfit only to end up fidgeting with it during the entire session (I've been there)! Everyone should feel like themselves.
What's you cancellation policy?
If you should decide to cancel your session, the 25% deposit is non-refundable per the client contract.
Please note that inclement weather or postponements do not constitute issuing a refund. If for any other reason I am not able to photograph upon the agreed day and time, and I'm not able to find a substitute photographer, a full refund will be issued within 30 days.
Why do you require a deposit?
A 25% non-refundable deposit is due at time of booking to secure your session date. I'm always happy to reschedule free of charge if something comes up, I simply ask for 48 hours notice.
How do you choose the images to include in our gallery?
I look carefully at every image from your session and hand select the best images. I am looking for images that best represent your family connection, as well as me as an artist.
Will you photoshop us?
My style of photography is to capture your unique family connection, through the use of both candid shots and formal portraits. If there is something temporary on your face that would otherwise heal in 2 weeks (e.g. scar, pimple), I will edit it out should you wish. I do not "airbrush" or swap faces during post-production.
Can I edit my own images?
Images I deliver are in their final edited form and may NOT be edited in any way by anyone. The client agrees that the finished product I provide is the final copyrighted image.
Where do your sessions take place?
Sessions can take place in your home, or any outdoor location (pending scouting). All prices include 60km total travel time.
When should we book a newborn session?
At any point during your pregnancy! Once baby arrives, we will reconnect and decide on a date that works best.
What can we do to prepare?
Being a mama to two kiddos under 3, the biggest suggestion I can offer is to prep your child(ren) beforehand. Specifically, let them know what the day will look like, talk to them about the camera and what it does, and ask if there is anything they'd like to do during the session (e.g. build a sandcastle, have a tea party, etc). Getting them involved, and allowing them to be a part of the planning can go a long way!
You'll also want to be sure to de-clutter any rooms we might be shooting in. Please don't go on a cleaning spree on my account, but simply tidy up items you wouldn't want in the photos (coffee cups, boxes, dirty diapers).
What if the weather is bad?
I wait for the day of to decide whether or not the session should be postponed. We live in Canada, and unfortunately, the weather can change dramatically within a few hours (hello winter in the morning and summer in the afternoon). In the event of inclement weather, I'm always happy to reschedule free of charge.
Are your prices negotiable?
Out of fairness to all of my clients, my prices are non-negotiable.
When will I get my photos?
Within 6-8 weeks of your session, you will receive a link to a private online gallery. The luxury album can take an additional 2 weeks (10 weeks total) following the date of your session.
Do you provide the unedited photos?
No. Unedited (RAW) files are not available for viewing or purchasing.
Are we able to download and print our own photos?
Yes! You will receive high-resolution digital files via an online private gallery. From there, you can download your images and have them printed at a location of your choice.
Please note that I cannot guarantee the quality of your images should you choose to have them printed at places such as Walmart, Costco, Staples, etc. due to the unreliability of their printers.
