Traditions Past

As winter's chill wraps Ottawa in its embrace, it's that time of the year when the camera I hold becomes a vessel for capturing the warmth of family traditions. But this year, the lens through which I view the holidays is tinged with nostalgia.

This year, our family’s compass points away from the cherished holiday traditions with my husband’s family in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Instead, we find ourselves rerouting to Southwestern Ontario for a wedding—a joyous occasion, yet one that steers us away from the cherished rituals that have become as much a part of my holidays as my own. It’s a poignant reminder that traditions—like the vibrant Quebecois songs that echo through the halls, the laughter shared over hearty bread and cheese (and GOOD wine), and the warmth of gathered generations—are the threads that bind us, even when miles apart. These moments, rich with meaning, are the ones we yearn to capture and hold onto. They’re not just festive gatherings; they’re the legacy we pass on.

Embracing (and Capturing) Change this Season

As a lifestyle family photographer, I've always believed in the power of photos to hold time still. Yet, the thought of missing those familiar scenes in Sherbrooke brings really makes me think: these images, these sessions we hold dear, they're not just holiday photos—they're the narrative threads of our lives, woven into the tapestry of our children’s memories.

So, as we head into a season that won't mirror the past, I'm reminded why capturing your family's special moments is so vital. It's about more than the holiday—it’s about embracing the joy and the change, about creating and holding onto the legacy that will outlast the season.

"Let’s make this holiday not about where we are, or what we want to get, but who we're with and the memories we're creating."

The Importance of Capturing Now

This year, let's capture the now, the new traditions, the love that remains constant amid change. From the candid chaos of wrapping presents to the quiet moments before the festivities begin, every photograph is a testament to your family's unbreakable bond.

Though my family’s holiday backdrop will shift, the essence of what we cherish remains the same. And in this shared understanding, I invite you to join me. Together, we'll freeze this holiday season into frames of joy and nostalgia, ensuring that no matter where life takes us, the heart of these days stays with us forever. Let’s make this holiday not about where we are, or what we want to get, but who we're with and the memories we're creating. Reach out, and let's plan your Holiday Traditions session.
